Merry and Magical

Pepperpot Season is among us and for a lot of people this is a season full of joy.
This is also a season where I like to reminisce with family and remember the family that is no longer here with us.

Growing up, I loved Christmas. It still remains my favourite holiday to this day. But it wasn’t the gifts that made me love Christmas. It was being able to see my family. All of us crowded together in my grandparents apartment. The smell of curry, and pepperpot, and black cake comforted me each year. I loved being with my family on Christmas Eve, while the Nat King Cole Christmas song and Jackson Five Christmas Album played softly in the background. At 12am, we would all hug and kiss and wish each other Merry Christmas. Christmas was also my grandpas favourite holiday.
There was something about his spirit that made you love Christmas. It could have been his heart of gold, or his immense capacity to love, or maybe my grandpa was just magic himself.
So every year since his passing, I take the time during the holiday season to appreciate the magic he brought into my life and how the magic of his soul still fills the room each year on Christmas Eve.

I love you Grandpa and miss you immensely.️
